Vigiles Academy Fire Officer I is a core intensive program that is based on the concepts and standards through the IFSTA Fire Officer I textbook.

This course will provide entry level first responders with the knowledge and skills to understand what hazardous substances are and the risk associated with them in an incident; Recognize the presence of hazardous substances in an emergency; Understand the role of the emergency responder at the Awareness and Operations Levels.

The minimum training standards to include comprehension and skill proficiency in the areas of  firefighter orientation, fireground safety, basic self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), personal protective equipment, small tools, apparatus, hose, ladders and basic fireground operations as well as leadership role in the fireground. Vigiles Academy has two formats available for this program, a summer academy as well as traditional length courses.
